Currently, we are searching for consultant-level physicians with training in both First and Third world medicine who have the requisite clinical skills to practice broadly in both primary and specialty care. This must include the ability to perform anesthesia and operate on emergency patients. Volunteers are needed for three to six month periods, to staff remote African district hospitals, and, after an initial period of settlement, to enthusiastically teach residents who rotate to these sites. Formal field training is targeted at emergency medicine, surgery, and primary care residents. These are physicians still completing training in their field of specialization who have not yet settled into practice. Progress in poverty eradication is complex and requires a unique set of skills in those who succeed in such service. These attributes include altruism, a work ethic, independence, and resourcefulness. Generally speaking, resident physicians epitomize such attributes.
